Ruth E. (Workman) Tucker

Passed on February 11, 2025
Resident of Taunton, MA

Ruth E. (Workman) Tucker, of Taunton, passed away on February 11, 2025 at 92 years old.  Ruth grew up in Dorchester, the youngest of 5 children of William and Evelyn (Hammett) Workman.

Ruth started school at the age of 4 after peeking in the window and being invited in by the teacher.  She graduated at 16 and went on to become a bookkeeper.

Ruth met the love of her life while sledding with her best friend.  He tackled her thinking it was his fiancé and that started their amazing journey together.

After getting married they lived in Wollaston Beach where they quickly outgrew their space with 3 children.  They bought their first home in Brockton where they met some of their best friends.  They again outgrew their home while pregnant with their 7th child.  They moved to Avon where we made incredible family memories.  The Gill Street Gang spent lots of time together in our yard and swimming in our pool.  After her husband’s passing, she moved to Taunton where she lived for 30 years.  Ruth moved to Brightview last year where she met some great friends who were by her side to the end.

Ruth’s full-time job was raising her family.  She enjoyed knitting, baking and doing puzzles.  She had her signature baby sweater that she made for anyone and everyone that was having a baby.

After many years of using public transportation to take her children to appointments, she finally got her license at the ripe old age of 45.

She cherished her volunteering at the St. Michael’s Bizarre Bake Table.  She spent many hours baking everyone’s favorite desserts – cookies, whoopie pies, congo squares and breads.

She volunteered at the Taunton library delivering books to the elderly, always with a smile and a treat.

Beloved wife of the late Victor Tucker.  Loving mother of the late Victor Tucker, Jr. (Chris), Dave Tucker (Helen), the late Mark Tucker, Gary Tucker, Paula Nelson (the late Howie), Joanne Walker (Scott), Marilyn Klim (the late Mark), Nance Synan (Mike) and Peggy Crowley (Doug).  Sister of the late William, Arthur, Russell and Norman Workman.  Cherished grandmother of Nick, Alex, Jenny, Nikki, the late Samantha, Crystal, Travis, Shannon, the late Joey, Josh, Becca, Jarred, Markie, Luke, Kristen, Madison, Sean, Nick, Victoria and Liam.  Also survived by 34 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

She will be missed deeply by her family, friends and all that knew her.  She was an amazing wife, mother, gammi and friend.
