Richard E. Frazier, 86, formerly of Holbrook, passed away February 22, 2019 after an 11-year battle with Parkinson’s Disease. He was predeceased by his parents, Percy and Helen (Smith) Frazier, and his sister, Margie Frazier.

He is survived by his children, June Frazier Ferguson and her husband Michael of Holbrook and Richard Frazier of Norwell; his grandson Richard Ferguson of Holbrook; and his sisters, Mary “Honey” Archibald of Taunton and Virginia “Ginny” Mahon and her husband Don of Medway.

Richard was born at his home in Weymouth and was delivered by his aunt Mildred (Frazier) D’Ambosi. Her grew up in Quincy where he enjoyed boxing and bowling. He served in the US Air Force from 1952-1956.

Upon his discharge from the service, he started raising his family and found himself raising a 1-year-old and 3-year-old by himself. He is retired from the State Highway Dept. Traffic Division.

Richard has been in the Actors Union since 1959. He has appeared in over 70 films and tv shows. In the 60’s, he was in the original Thomas Crown Affair and The Cardinal and Charly. In the 90’s he was in House Sitter, Blown Away, Meet Joe Black, A Civil Action, Love Letter, Me Myself and Irene. In the 2000’s he was in Mystic River, Celtic Pride, Fever Pitch, 27 Dresses, Underdog, and Bride Wars. His last movie was That’s My Boy with Adam Sandler. As a union extra, Richard’s roles included playing party guests, wedding guests, a church patron, a security guard, an usher, a Red Sox fan, a train conductor, a villager, at a train station and many crowded scenes.

He got to stand in for Robert Duvall on the movie A Civil Action and got to read lines to John Travolta. He got to stand in for Anthony Hopkins in the movie Amistad. On TV, he appeared in a couple of Spencer for Hire, The Practice, and Miller Court episodes.

In the 70’s and 80’s, Richard worked in community theater, acting in over 100 plays and directing at least a dozen.

Richard was a big sports fan of the Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics, and Bruins.

Richard had a great sense of humor and sharp wit. He enjoyed the simple things in life including whole belly clams, scallops, and shrimp. He also enjoyed traveling and going to Italy and the Panama Canal during his retirement.

Visiting hours will be held at the Hurley Funeral Home, 127 So. Franklin St. (Rt. 37), Holbrook on Thursday, February 28th beginning at 9am followed by a funeral service at 11am. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Interment Union Cemetery, Holbrook. Donations in Richard’s memory can be made to the Michael J.
