Rees Joseph Irvine, of Hanover, passed away peacefully on October 6th surrounded by his loving family. He was 84 years old. Born in Boston, he attended Brighton HS and Northeastern University. Rees loved spending time with his family and friends, was an avid football fan and lover of all outdoor sports. His love for running spanned his lifetime. He was the founder of the original Quincy Flyers Running Club. He competed in several marathons including five Boston Marathons and received the Quincy YMCA Outstanding Volunteer Award in 1981.
He is survived by his loving wife Dorothy (Pasquale) Irvine of 64 years. Loving Father of Dorothy Shea and husband Peter Shea (deceased), Patricia Gambon and husband James Gambon, Joseph Irvine and wife Kathy Irvine, Christine Ritchie and husband Joseph Ritchie. Devoted brother to Margaret Devlin and preceded in death by his brother Nicholas Irvine. He leaves behind 9 grandchildren (Alysa, Michael, Meghan, Andy, David, Emma, Mark, Colleen and Scott), 1 great granddaughter Aaliyah, and many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours from Hurley Funeral Home, 127 S. Franklin Street, Holbrook, MA, Tues., Oct. 11th 8:30-9:30am, followed by a funeral mass at The Parish of St. Clare, 1244 Liberty Street, Braintree, MA at 10am. Interment at Blue Hills Cemetery, Braintree. In lieu of flowers, donations in Rees’ memory can be made to the Dr. Ruth McLain Hospice Home, 670 Washington Street, Braintree, MA.
