Phyllis Eloise Vecchione, born and raised in the town of Avon passed away on July 25th after a brief illness at the age of 91.
Phyllis worked at Randolph Manufacturing in 1948 as a seamstress, stitching those famous canvas high tops. In 1972 after raising her children, she went to work at Hit or Miss Clothing in Stoughton, MA where she retired in 1995. Phyllis enjoyed spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. For all that knew her, she was a kind gentle woman who was passionate about her family and those that she loved. Through the years, Phyllis could be found going to ball fields and dance studios attending many events of her children and grandchildren. She loved to travel, garden, was an avid reader, crafter, and was an expert seamstress sewing many doll clothes for her beloved Grand and Great Grandchildren. She was an active member of the Avon Baptist Church and was a woman of faith. Phyllis is predeceased by her parents, Nelson and Doris Smith (Lydia Lord, birth mother-deceased).
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Anthony P. Vecchione Sr.; children Anthony P. Vecchione Jr and his partner Leslie McElhiney of Yarmouth, Michael J. Vecchione and his wife Any Veiga of Brockton, Marie E. Ghelfi and her partner Gary Chevalier (deceased husband James A. Ghelfi). Sister of Margie Williams of Georgia, the late Francis Vaughan, Carol Nimmo of Framingham, and Nelson Smith of Avon. Also survived by 7 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral from the Hurley Funeral Home, 134 So. Main St. (Rt. 28), Randolph on Tuesday, August 2nd at 9:15am followed by a funeral service at the Avon Baptist Church at 10am. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Monday, August 1st from 5 to 8pm. Interment St. Michael’s Cemetery, Avon.
