Michael J. Morrissey, Jr.

September 21, 1941 – December 11, 2024
Resident of Holbrook, MA

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Michael J. Morrissey Jr., of Holbrook, Massachusetts, on December 11, 2024, at the age of 83, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born on September 21, 1941, in Boston, Michael was the beloved son of the late Michael and Regina (Deagan) Morrissey. He spent his early years in Dorchester and Roxbury before settling in Holbrook, where he devoted his life to raising his family.

In 1975, Mike proudly joined the Boston Fire Department, Local 718, serving with distinction on Engine 24. During his time on the force, he suggested, the department adopted a permanently mounted hinged wrench on the back step of the fire apparatus. This allowed for better utilization of manpower at a fire scene. This tool and practice is used till this day By the Boston Fire department. Despite his dedicated service, he was forced to retire in 2000 due to injuries sustained in the line of duty.

Mike was a man of many passions. He cherished traveling with his wife, Patricia, including many trips to Foxwoods, reading, lending a helping hand to his children with their homes, and spending treasured moments with his grandchildren, who brought him endless pride and joy. Known for his green thumb, he cultivated a vegetable garden that produced the “best tomatoes ever,” a hallmark of his springtime. Sundays were reserved for family dinners, and he enjoyed walking his faithful dog, Caesar, as well as indulging in pizza, beer, football cards and Keno games with his best friend, Ralph.

In his younger years, Mike was an avid scuba diver and hunter, and throughout his life, he was a jack-of-all-trades, skilled in everything from cars to construction. Always generous with his time and expertise, he was the person family and friends turned to for help and advice.

Mike leaves behind his beloved wife of 57 years, Patricia (Lyons) Morrissey, and their two devoted children: Michael B. Morrissey and his wife Tanya of Halifax, and Regina M. O’Brien and her husband Shawn of Pembroke. He was the proud and loving grandfather of Devin, Jillian, Katelyn, Justin, Emily, and Meagan.

He is also survived by his sisters Genevieve Cahill of Duxbury, Marilyn Broomstein of Abington, and Lorraine Merrick of Yarmouth Port. He was predeceased by his siblings Bernadette, Bernard, Dennis, and Vincent Morrissey.

Mike’s love, hard work and dedication to family will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered.
