Mary 'Dolly' White Kenney
Passed on January 2, 2023
Resident of Avon, MA
Mary (White) “Dolly” Kenney of Avon, 92 years of age, born on July 30, 1930, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2023.
She was the beloved wife of the late Thomas M. Kenney, devoted mother of Kathy of Avon, Tom (Joan) of Easton, Jim (Mary) of Mansfield, Joe (Tracy) of East Bridgewater, and Ellen Cadigan (Brian) of Halifax, loving grandmother of Katelyn, Joseph, James Jr., Jenna (Teddy), William (Rahela), Kathleen, Christina (Jay), and Kayla, adoring great-grandmother to JJ, Katherine, and Suraya, and cherished aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Mary was the youngest daughter of James and Mary White, and they nicknamed her “Dolly” as an infant. She was predeceased by her parents and siblings, James White, Josephine Strauser, and Gloria DelVecchio.
She was proud of her Boston roots and graduated from Cathedral High School. Mary met the “love of her life,” Tom Kenney, on New Year’s Eve 1948. They had been married 65 years when Tom passed in 2015.
Dolly made friends wherever she went and was a fixture in the East Spring Street neighborhood for 60 years. She was a faithful parishioner of St. Michael’s.
Mary and Kathy moved to the Emmanuel (Connemara) House in Brockton in 2017, and they loved their home there.
Dolly loved her Red Sox (especially Mookie Betts), birds (especially cardinals), her “Club Ladies,” Sunday afternoon rides, American Bandstand (back in the day), long walks, cats, dogs (especially Snoopy and Chloe), but most of all, she loved family celebrations. Her greatest pride was being there for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was our matriarch. Mary will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her–truly the wind beneath our wings.
In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made in Mary’s name to St. Michael’s Church in Avon.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a wake to be held on Friday, January 6, from 4 PM to 7 PM at Hurley’s Funeral Home, 134 South Main Street, Randolph. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Michael’s, Avon on Saturday, January 7, at 10 AM. Interment St. Michael’s Cemetery.
