Lorraine K. Gleason Murphy

Passed on June 24, 2023
Resident of Westwood - Avon, MA

Murphy, Lorraine (Gleason) of Westwood and Avon on June 24th, she was 98 years old.

Born in Belfast, ME to her beloved mother Mildred and father David Gleason. Sister to the late Claire Buckley (Gleason) whom she adored and shared so many special memories with of growing up in Brockton and family time at Bass River.

She was married to the late William J. Murphy for 41 years. They had a first date, June 10th, 1943, their graduation day from Brockton High School. She and her beloved Bill settled in Avon where they raised their children with shared faith and love. They were selfless and devoted parents who enjoyed simple pleasures, like hosting cookouts in the backyard, taking a ride along the coast, or spending time with good friends and neighbors on Clover Ave.

Lorraine enjoyed her work at the New England Telephone Company and the camaraderie she shared with the other ‘Telephone Girls’, including the beginning of one of the most meaningful and enduring friendships of her life, with the late Jen Walsh. Lorraine loved being anywhere near the ocean, a nice view with a good book, and most especially spending time with the ones she loved, particularly if it involved a trip to the Cape, Green Harbor, or Manomet treating her grandkids to an ice-cream cone. She was a long-time volunteer at Cardinal Cushing Hospital with her dear friend Irene Molloy.

Lorraine dedicated her life to caring for and raising her family. Lorraine was the loving mother to Maureen and her husband Jim Von Euw of Westwood, with whom she lived for 23 years; Paul Murphy and his wife Joan of Holbrook; Peter Murphy and his wife Valerie of Walpole; Jane O’Donnell and her husband Patrick of Westwood; and the late Kathleen Mary Murphy.

Loving grandmother to John Von Euw (Betsy West), Kathleen Von Euw (Kane Munday), and David Von Euw (Emily Anderson), Erin O’Hearn (Patrick), Justin Murphy (Sara), and Kevin Murphy (Rachel Henderson), Connor Murphy, Jillian Bedard (Mike), Mia O’Donnell and P.J. O’Donnell. Adoring great grandmother to Nora Von Euw; Brendan, Colleen and Margaret O’Hearn; William and Charlie Murphy; and CJ, Brady, and Henry Murphy.

Beloved aunt of Mary-Jane Ruggels, Patricia Cook, Gerard Nadeau, and the late Thomas Nadeau. Great Aunt to many cherished grandnieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held Thursday, June 29, from 5 to 7 pm at the Hurley Funeral Home, 134 South Main Street (Rte. 28), Randolph, MA.
