Joseph V. Anastos, 89, of Naples, FL, and Avon, MA died peacefully at home on February 16, 2022 surrounded by loved ones. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Antonia, brother, Charles, and his loving wife of 62 years, Mary (Rindone) Anastos.
Joseph is survived by his three sons, Joseph Jr. and wife Laurie, Stephen and wife Heidee, and Richard and fiancee Mary. He was a doting grandfather to Stephen Jr. and wife Brooke, Brandon, Christina and wife Amy, Kyle, Andrew, Alexa, Adam, Michael, Olivia and Sophia. He had recently welcomed a great-grandaughter, Parker Josephine Anastos.
Joseph also leaves behind his siblings Emma Woods, Anna Buches and husband Larry, George and wife Carol, John and wife Gail, James, Nancy Kramer and partner Frank and Phillip.
Joseph is also survived by his loving companion, Mabel Corso, with whom he shared seven golden years.
Joseph was born in Boston on May 26, 1932, joined the Navy in June 1951 and married the love of his life Mary on May 24, 1952. They were always together and shared unconditional love and boundless selflessness. Joe was a proud American disabled veteran who survived a horrific explosion aboard the USS Bennington on his 22nd birthday. He loved his family, our country and all Boston sports teams. He was ever the optimist and preached “anything is possible if you believe in yourself.”
Joseph’s greatest joy came from being with his children and grandchildren. Together, Joe and his sons played softball, bowled, golfed, coached Little League and built several family businesses. Joe and Mary were a fixture in the lives of their grandchildren, attending hundreds of youth sports games, Sunday breakfasts, and weeknight trips to Dairy Queen. Grandpa Joe will be terribly missed.
