John “Jack” A. Picciuto, Sr.
July 21, 1942 – October 13, 2026
Resident of Carver, MA
John Alphonse Picciuto, 84, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2026 at home in Carver, MA.
Known to all as “Jack,” he was born in Brockton, MA on July 21, 1942 and grew up in Avon. He was the third of four children born to John Picciuto and Mary Uva Picciuto. Jack graduated from Avon High School in 1960 and enlisted in the U.S. Marines. He completed basic training at Parris Island, SC and was assigned as a flamethrower operator at Camp Lejeune, NC with duty supporting the Cuban Missile Crisis quarantine. Honorably discharged in 1963, Jack returned home to MA where he became a meatcutter for Brockton Public Markets (BPM) which later became Shaw’s Supermarkets, Inc. He served as a trustee for the United Food and Commercial Workers Union during the latter half of his career. He retired from Shaw’s in 2002, having spent forty years in his trade.
In retirement, Jack split his time between his homes in Spring Hill, FL and Carver, MA. He was an avid golfer and motorcyclist, at one point owning two Harley Davidsons and participating in various bike weeks. He also enjoyed boating and fishing, and spending time with family and friends. Very mechanically minded, Jack could tinker with and fix nearly anything he put his hands on. When it came to carving a turkey, nobody did it better. He had a love of travel, and in his later years, he toured Italy and cruised the waters of Alaska on memorable family trips.
Jack was predeceased by his parents, John and Mary Picciuto; his sister Marie Greenbush and brother-in-law Joe Greenbush. He is survived by his two children, Jack Picciuto Jr. (MaryEllen) and Debbie Esperanca (Michael), and 3 grandchildren who affectionately called him “Papa Jack” or “P-Jack”—Kelsey Picciuto (Ian Pararajasingham), Corey Picciuto (Manuela), and Anne Esperanca (Seth Richards); brother Louie Picciuto (Sherry Fitzpatrick); sister Linda Allan (Jeff); and a host of loving extended family members, neighbors, and friends. Semper Fi!
A memorial funeral mass will be held on Friday, October 23rd at 11am at St. Michael’s Church in Avon. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Interment with military honors will follow St. Michael’s Cemetery, Avon. Visiting hours are omitted. I worked with Jack for many years. He was both, humble and kind. It would be impossible to find someone who had an unkind thing to say about him. I am forever grateful to him for the benefits I enjoyed during my employment due to his tenacity at the negotiating table but I’m most grateful for having known him as a person. He will be so missed.
To Jack’s Family and Friends ,
We offer our sincere condolences on your loss.
Jack had a way of making people feel at ease , I learned a lot whenever we might run into each other ,whether it was at a political rally or a restaurant.
I will remember him as a friend and mentor
Good night Jack P

Deepest sympathy and condolences to Jack’s family.
I first met Jack in the fourth grade at the Littlefield school in the Spring of 1952. Tje Fifford School had burned down on Good Friday morning, and we kids from the Giford were transferred to the Littlefield for double sessions. I think that was the first year we had Little League baseball in Avon. Jack was a good baseball player!
One of the last times I saw Jack was about 25 years ago. We got together for a beer at the Avon Social Club and ended up going to dinner together at George’s Cafe on Belmont Street in Brockton. We talked a lot about Rocky that day and Jack showed me all the Rocky photos and memoribilia that adorned George;s walls. Rocky was Jack’s cousin, of course, and he had bee an immense presenve in our world during our school years. We had also bumped into Jack’s coisin, Joe Uva earlier at the social club. i remember Je, who had been my brother Skip’s best friend, as always smiling.
I miss thode days –those years, and I will miss Jack. He was a good man and a good Marine.
Semper Fi! Jack.
I have such fond memories of Jack from my childhood. Jack and my dad shared many good times fishing and hunting, and I remember Jack coming to the farm to butcher the meat of the animals that were killed. Jack was such a good man, and I will always remember your kindness and the memories from those days. Rest in peace. Jack will be remembered fondly and missed by many. ❤️
