Joel F. Swanwick, born in Burlington, VT, and a residence of Randolph, MA for most of his life, passed away on September 21, 2021 at the age of 78. He lived with Parkinson’s Disease for the last five years and ultimately succumbed to a traumatic head injury sustained during a fall at home. No stranger to life’s struggles, Joel always persevered. His dry sense of humor and unassuming intellect would often catch you off guard. His tenacity led him to a successful, 36-year career at The Boston Globe, serving as Head Foreman of the Machine Shop for 15 years. Joel’s passions were his family, car racing, and working with his hands. Joel is survived by his wife, Sheila (“Sweetheart”); daughters Diana Reiman and Julia Swanwick; brother Mick Swanwick; son-in-law Rob Reiman; grandsons Henry Reiman, Benjamin and Ayvion Swanwick; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral from the Hurley Funeral Home, 134 So. Main St. (Rt. 28), Randolph on Friday, September 24th at 9:15am followed by a funeral mass at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Randolph at 10am. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, September 23rd from 4-7pm. Interment St. Mary’s Cemetery, Randolph. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St. Mary’s Parish, 22 Seton Way, Randolph, MA 02368, on his behalf.
