James R. Utley

James R. Utley, of Avon, passed away September 7, 2026 at the age of 84.  James moved from Watertown to Randolph in 1981 amd started at Braintree hospital that year where he remained until he retired at 65.  Fondly known as Mr. Ut, he loved Creedence Clearwater Revival, Neil Young, and Clint Eastwood.  He enjoyed playing horseshoes, poker and cribbage with family and friends.  James was a devoted loving father and grandfather.   He especially loved the Boston Bruins.  He was well loved by all his children’s friends and considered as a second father with an open-door policy at any time.

Beloved husband to the late Candace Utley.  Loving father of James Utley, Jr. and his wife Robin, Dawn Summers and her husband Rob, and the late Dave Utley.  Cherished grandfather of Kyle, Paige, and Luke Summers, and Christopher and Mathew Utley.  Son of the late Frank and Dorothy Utley and son-in-law of the late Frank and Doris “Grammy” Currier, with whom he was especially close.  Brother of the late Frank Utley, Dorothy Stonebreaker, Marjorie Utley, Rosemary Sheridan, Madeline Admirand, William Utley, Joseph Utley, Robert Utley, Richard Utley, Michael Utley, Annie Moruzzi, and Timothy Utley.  Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held at the Hurley Funeral Home, 134 So. Main St. (Rt. 28), Randolph on Wednesday, September 16^th from 9-11am followed by a service in the funeral home at 11am.  Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Interment St. Mary’s Cemetery, Randolph.
