James Roy Smith, age 88, passed away on April 28th, 2022 at his home surrounded by his family. He died after a courageous battle of Pancreatic Cancer, able to stay home with the help of his family and South Shore Hospice.
James (Roy) is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years Sandra (Cody) Smith. Loving father of Sandy Messia and her husband Bob of Randolph, Jimmy Smith and his wife Charlene of Bridgewater, Steven Smith and his wife Maria of Plymouth, Jo-Anne Horn and her husband Gerard of Norwalk CT, Catherine Moran and her husband David of Weymouth and Christine Smith of Rockland. Devoted grandfather to his 13 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters Alice Manning of Braintree and Barbara Cody of Greenwich CT, and many nieces and nephews. Roy was pre-deceased by his parents James Royal and Alice Smith and his brother Richard Smith, all of Quincy.

Roy grew up in Quincy and graduated in the first class of Archbishop Williams of Braintree. He worked at Sigma Instruments in South Braintree for many years until his retirement. Roy was a Past Grand Knight at the Holbrook Knights of Columbus. He was first and foremost a family man, who loved his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren beyond words. Roy also enjoyed to hunt and fish with his family and friends. He loved his dogs and gardening.

Funeral from the Hurley Currie Funeral Home, 127 So. Franklin St. (Rt. 37), Holbrook on Wednesday, May 4th at 9:15am followed by a funeral mass at St. Joseph Church in Holbrook. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday May 3rd from 4-7pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the American Cancer Society or the South Shore Hospice.
