James J. (Jim) Tempesta, of Randolph, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on July 1, 2022 after a brief illness. Devoted father of James Tempesta and his wife Crystal of Braintree and loving grandfather of Lucca J. Tempesta. Beloved son of Theresa L. (Polvere) Tempesta and the late Jack J. Tempesta. Loving brother of Theresa Penney and her late husband Bud of Bridgewater, Marie Conrad and her husband Rich of Randolph, and Daniel Tempesta and his wife Christine of Plymouth. Also survived and loved by his nieces and nephews, Jacqueline, Neil, Justine, Ben, Mike, Rebecca, Christine, Jim, Daniel Jr., Anthony, Lauren and Reese. He was a loving stepfather to his former wife, the late Helene Mallen’s three sons, the late Sean Flaherty, the late Scott Flaherty and David Flaherty.
Jim was a 1968 graduate of Randolph High and a 1970 post grad of Blue Hills Regional Technical Institute. He was a Navy Vietnam Era Veteran. He worked most of his life in the family oil business, Tempesta Bros Oil Company, alongside his dad, uncles, and cousins. When the business was sold, he continued the tradition with Jim Tempesta Oil. He recently retired and was looking forward to spending cold winters indoors and spending time with his son, grandson and family. He loved family gatherings and all the fun and shenanigans that came with them. He was an avid sports fan and in his younger years was part of several championship baseball teams; 1966 Randolph Babe Ruth State Champions,1967 St. Mary’s CYO State Champions and the1968 Old Colony Champions! He then passed on his knowledge to the next generation while coaching Randolph Babe Ruth. In 1991 he was inducted into the Stetson-Randolph High School Athletic Hall Of Fame. Throughout his life he enjoyed following all Boston sports teams especially watching the Red Sox with his mother, also an avid sports fan. He enjoyed gardening, watching the cooking channel, trying his hand at new recipes and he made the best coffee! He was a longtime member of the Elks, the DAV and the Sons of Italy. He was well loved and will be sorely missed by his family and his friends, who meant the world to him.
Funeral from the Hurley Funeral Home, 134 So. Main St. (Rt. 28), Randolph on Friday, July 8th at 9:15am followed by a funeral mass at St. Bernadette Church in Randolph at 10am. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held Thursday, July 7th from 4-7pm. Interment Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree. Late US Navy Veteran. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Jim’s name to Old Colony Hospice, 321 Manley St., W. Bridgewater, MA 02379 or St. Anthony Shrine, 100 Arch St., Boston, MA 02110.
