Dolores M. (Steadman) Murphy, originally from Dorchester, passed away suddenly on March 18, 2017 at the age of 71 after a brief illness. Dolores was born on December 31, 1945 to parents, Dorothy (Rush) and Walter Steadman in Boston. She was the youngest of five children. Predeceased by her siblings, Walter, Robert, John and Joan (Flynn). She is survived by her loving husband of over 50 years, retired Boston Firefighter, Frederick T. Murphy of Marshfield. Devoted mother to their three children, Frederick M. Murphy and his partner Michael Shipley of Dorchester, Jason Murphy of Whitman, Alicia Murphy and wife Brianna Murphy of Los Angeles, CA. She was the cherished grandmother of Kylee, Meghan, and Jasia. She was a wonderful aunt, sister-in-law, cousin and lifelong friend to many.

When Dolores finished her schooling, she married and started a family, eventually moving and settling down in Holbrook where she raised her family and resided for over 30 years. She had a lengthy career with the United States Postal Service until retiring in 2003, moving permanently to Marshfield with her husband, spending their winters in Clearwater, Florida.

Dolores was known for her infectious laugh, quick wit, sense of humor, her eternal optimism & positive spirit. You could always count on Dolores to know the answers. She had a sharp mind and an amazing ability to recall dates & details from a wide variety of subjects with lightning speed making her a difficult adversary to scrabble players & trivia buffs alike throughout her life. Dolores’s insurmountable love for her family and her zest for life will live on in her family and friends and the ripple effects of her life will live on forever.

Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at the Hurley Funeral Home, 127 So. Franklin St. (Rt. 37), Holbrook from 8:30am-10:30am followed by a funeral mass at St. Joseph’s Church, 153 So. Franklin St. (Rt. 37) in Holbrook at 11am. Burial private. Donations can be made in Dolores’s name to the Dana Farber Cancer Center at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth via http://www.southshorehealth.org/evergreen or The Spaulding Rehabilitation Center of Charlestown via https://giving.spauldingnetwork.org/donate, both of which provided great care in her lifetime.
