Dennis S. Sweeney
May 3, 1953 – July 4, 2024
Resident of Quincy - Hull, MA
Dennis S. Sweeney, of Quincy and Hull, passed away peacefully at home by the ocean on July 4, 2024 at the age of 71, with his children by his side. He was born on May 3, 1953 in Quincy, MA to M. Joseph and Margaret Sweeney. Dennis graduated New England Institute of Anatomy in 1974 to follow in his father’s footsteps as a Funeral Director. He took over Sweeney Funeral Home in Quincy in 1977, following the death of his father. He owned and operated the Funeral Home until February of 2024, when he retired. He worked in the family business serving Quincy and the surrounding communities for 50 years.
Dennis was happiest sailing the open ocean with his 3 children and beloved, late wife, Pauline. He loved traveling to the Caribbean with his family where they would spend time snorkeling, sailing and exploring the islands. Dennis taught himself to sail during the summers he spent in Hull as a child. As a dad, he shared his love of the ocean and boating with his children. On multiple occasions, he sailed to the Caribbean from New England with friends and sailed from Hull to Bermuda with his two sons. He loved and admired Jimmy Buffet and dreamt of a slow life at sea, having a “cheeseburger in paradise” and an Amstel Light in hand.
Dennis was a loving husband to the late Pauline Sweeney for 45 years before her passing in July of 2022; devoted father of Andrew J. Sweeney, Sgt. QPD, and his fiancé Julie Warren of Quincy, Brian D. Sweeney and his wife Peggy of Medford, and Laura E. Sweeney of Hull; doting grandfather “Poppy” of Samantha “Sammie” Sweeney of Medford; He was the last remaining sibling of the M. Joseph Sweeney family.
