Charles E. Hickey, Sr., a 57-year resident of Holbrook, passed away November 26, 2016 at the age of 86. Charlie was retired at the rank of First Sergeant after serving 38 years in the Massachusetts Army National Guard. Retired Vice President of the National Association of Government Employees. He was a fancier of Birmingham Roller pigeons most of his life. He was a jazz aficionado; and a lover of all things Irish. Charlie loved being a soldier. He also considered himself an Irish storyteller and historian.
Beloved husband of 65 years of Rose (Boffo) Hickey. Loving father of Steven C. Hickey and his wife Kristin McCarthy of Shutesbury; David C. Hickey and his wife Kenna-Rey of TN; Michael J. Hickey and his wife Sharon of Abington; and Eileen M. Hickey and her husband Thomas Donovan of Dedham. Dear grandfather of Erin, Michael, Megan Rose, Benjamin, Matthew, Daniel, Patrick, Sean, and Ryan and Kerry. Also survived by 6 great-grandchildren.
Funeral from the Hurley Funeral Home, 127 So. Franklin St. (Rt. 37), Holbrook, on Thursday, December 1st at 8:15am followed by a funeral mass at St. Joseph’s Church in Holbrook at 9am. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Wednesday, November 30th from 2-4pm and 6-8pm. Interment Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Arlington. Late US Army Veteran.
