Anna Mary Masone Cammarata

Anna Mary (Masone) Cammarata, of Randolph, formerly of South Boston and Boston’s North End, passed away peacefully December 6, 2022 at the age of 100. Loving wife of the late Dominic J. Cammarata. Beloved mother of Richard J. Cammarata and Ann Marie (Cammarata) Bruno. Daughter of the late John A. Masone and Jennie (Savini) Masone. Sister of the late Ernestine “Billie” Masone, Doris “Bucky” Masone and John A. “Massey” Masone Jr. Adored mother-in-law of the late James Bruno. Dear aunt to many nieces and nephews and known as “Auntie Mary” to many others of her and her husband’s extended family and friends.

“Mary” was born on January 8, 1922 in Boston’s North End. The Cammarata and Masone families moved to South Boston when Mary and Dominic were young children and grew up as neighbors on East 2nd Street where they became young sweethearts. They married in October of 1946. In 1965, they had a home built in Randolph that they moved into in September of that year. In that home, Mary and Dominic hosted yearly holiday dinners and pool parties for family and friends. Every gathering was ended with the traditional friendly poker game that was filled with raucous laughter and good-natured kidding.

A graduate of South Boston High School, she played violin in the band. After graduation, she worked as a seamstress in Boston’s garment district. When her husband founded the Ace Fence Company, she became the full-time secretary, bookkeeper, and Office Manager, greeting everyone who came through the door giving them coffee and food. She was a fantastic mother and cook, always slaving over the hot stove. She always encouraged her children to smile. She loved to dance, sing and have fun, and loved to laugh. She loved animals, especially cats and dogs. She enjoyed socializing with family and friends, in and outside the home, going to horse and dog races, playing cards, and going to plays in the Theatre District. For many years, she drove to Florida taking on the bulk of the load and sometimes all of it. She was an excellent driver and chaufferred many other that needed rides to various events over the years. She loved spending many summer days at her in-laws’ (Theresa and Louis Cassis) cottage on the water in Sand Hills in Scituate. Mary loved doing crossword puzzles and other mind stimulating puzzles and in her twilight years, Sudoku was a daily pastime. She loved old movies and was especially fond of old Westerns and television series. She must have watched Clint Eastwood’s “Unforgiven” over 50 times. Master and Commander” with Russell Crowe was another one of her favorites.

She was an active member of the Pietraperzia Lodge in the North End, a division of the Independent Order Sons of Italy for many years. As a long-time member of the Women’s Auxillary, she served in various positions, including Secretary, Event Organizer, and President. Also, she chaired various committees during state conventions.

Many thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Beth-Israel Deaconess Hospital Milton, especially Dr. Scott Lutch, Dr. George McManama Jr., and their staffs. Special thanks to the CMO medical team of 2 East that assisted Mary during her transition. Also, thanks to the late Dr. Lewis Braverman of the Boston Medical Center.

We were fortunate to have shared our lives with Mary and she will always be with us in our hearts and minds. God bless her and all her family and friends with whom she has been reunited.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Bernadette Church in Randolph on Monday, December 12th at 11am. Relatives and friends are invited to the funeral mass. Visiting hours have been omitted. Interment private.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Make-A-Wish Foundation or an animal shelter or rescue league of your choosing.
