Ann R. (Remmes) Merrigan

Passed on April 12, 2026
Resident of Dorchester - Braintree, MA

Ann R. Merrigan, 88, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2026. Born to Anna and Robert Remmes, she was the last of twelve children. She endured the early loss of her father and, later, the loss of three brothers in the prime of their lives. Through it all, the bonds among her siblings remained strong, extending across generations and holding together a wide circle of family.

In true Dorchester fashion, Ann’s love story began across parish lines. A girl from St. Ann’s, she met Frank Merrigan of St. Gregory’s at a St. Brendan’s minstrel show, an introduction that led to 48 years of marriage. Together they made a life in Dorchester, Norwood, Walnut Creek, Dedham, Braintree, and Marina Bay, raising a family that became her enduring legacy and quiet pride.

Ann is survived by her five children: Bill and his wife Linda (Brian, Kyle, and Emily); Paul and his wife Janet (Kevin and Eric); Joanne and her wife Cheryl; David and his wife Kate (Sami, Jacki, and Quinn); and Laurie (Britney, Abby, and Chris); and seven great-grandchildren.

A nurse for most of her career at South Shore Hospital, Ann worked nights and sacrificed without complaint. She valued family events and loyal friendships, enjoyed skiing, reading, and traveling, and was known for her unmistakable laugh.

In lieu of flowers, honor Ann her way, respect your nurse, and don’t complain. Practical to the end, services will be private, as Ann never wanted any fuss.

What a perfectly written send-off to a woman who felt like a second mother to me during childhood. She was such an individual, and during a time when that was not always easy for women. They don’t make ‘em like her anymore.

Aunt Ann was a great Sister to our Mother Claire.
She was there when our Mother died.
    She was very caring.
She was three years younger than our Mother and always there for her.
