Ann 'Nancy' McLoughlin Bessette

Ann “Nancy” (McLoughlin) Bessette of Randolph, passed away Friday, March 18 at Alliance Health in Braintree. She was 95. Mrs. Bessette was the loving wife of the late Joseph “Joe” Bessette.
Born in Boston on October 2, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Martin and Kathleen (Walsh) McLoughlin.
Nancy grew up in Dorchester, MA with her parents and 9 siblings on Carson St. After marrying Joe Bessette they lived in multiple apartments in Dorchester, MA before moving to a single-family home on Chestnut St in Randolph, MA. It was Randolph that became home and where they raised their family of 6 boys.
After the boys grew up and moved out of the house many years later Nancy and Joe moved to a retirement community in Rockland, MA called Leisure Woods. They lived there for a number of years. When Joe passed away Nancy moved back to Randolph to an apartment at the Simon Fireman Community on North Main St.
Nancy loved living independently and really enjoyed her many years as part of the Simon Fireman Community. She was a beloved member of the community and had many friends and family in the Randolph area which she always called home.
Always eager and willing to strike up a conversation with anyone, she easily made friends with anyone who crossed her path. With a keen ability to listen and her caring nature, Nancy was beloved by friends, family, and oftentimes complete strangers.
Since learning of her passing, nieces and nephews shared some of their thoughts on their Aunt Nancy. Here are a few of them:
Aunt Nancy probably had a bigger effect on our lives than any other aunt or uncle which is saying an awful lot. Without her generosity and pure selflessness our trips to Boston would have been incredibly different and worse. She is a Saint. And a spark plug. Tough as nails but also as sweet as a person can be.
She was a beautiful wonderful woman. She will be missed. I’m sure she is already in heaven. And to add to what I said above, Aunt Nancy was also a beautiful human being.
Aunt Nancy was the best!
She was an amazing woman who raised a great family.
Will remember her always. She was so cool.
What an absolutely amazing woman she was. Heaven must be getting pretty loud with the McLoughlin women up there together laughing. She will be missed!
Nancy is predeceased by her parents Martin and Kathleen (Walsh) McLoughlin, husband Joe Bessette, son John Bessette, sisters Mary MacKay, Catherine (Kay) McRudin, Elizabeth (Betty) Svirsky, Josephine Hughes, and Johan McLoughlin.
Nancy is survived by her sons Joseph of CA, Alan and wife Nancy of NH, Ronald and wife Polly of VA, Thomas and partner Isaac of MA, and Robert and wife Thalia of NH. She is also survived by her sisters Nora (Pat) Gracia of MA, Helen Orzuchowski of NY, and Lill McLoughlin of MA, and her brother Martin (Tom) McLoughlin and wife Susan of MA.
Nancy is also survived by grandchildren Joseph Bessette and wife Colleen of IL, Nitai Bessette and wife Caroline of Canada, Stephen Bessette and wife Kelly of VA, Daniel Bessette of VA, Lianna Bessette and husband Scott of MA, Rebecca Quackenbush and husband Thomas
of AZ, and Maria Bessette of NH.
Nancy is also survived by great grandchildren Lucas, Hayden, Jaycen, Gianna, Maureen, Lucy, and Zoe. She is also survived by countless nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be from the Hurley Funeral Home, 134 S. Main St., (Rte. 28) Randolph on Thursday, March 24th at 9:15 am. Followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Bernadette Church, 1031 N. Main St., (Rte. 28) Randolph 10 am. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday from 4-7 pm. Interment will take place in the VA National Cemetery, Bourne on Thursday at 12:30 pm. Afterwards family and friends are invited to gather at the house of Tom Bessette and Ike Colbert (31 Wellesley Park, Dorchester) at 3:30 PM that afternoon.
In Lieu of flowers, donations in Ann’s memory may be made to Simon C. Fireman Community, 640 North Main Street Randolph MA.

My Godmother was such an amazing woman who lived a full and meaningful life. I was truly honored to be related to and named after her. I am blown away at how much she accomplished in her lifetime. She was a pure delight to be with, always great conversations, an absolute gem of our family. She will be sorely missed. God bless Aunt Nancy and her/our family!!
If you were to ask me to name three things to describe Auntie Nancy (though, of course, there are so very many wonderful words to describe her), I would say KIND, JOYFUL (her laugh was infectious) and PRETTY! Seriously, she looked a good 20 years younger than she actually was! Amazing! She was such a good listener, too—somebody I loved talking with. Most importantly, she was fiercely proud of her boys! I truly loved her, and I will miss her dearly.
Nancy was a sweetheart and a loving warm lady. My husband Jim and I have some wonderful memories of Nancy and Joe. We knew Nancy after she married Joe and were invited to their home several times. Jim worked with Joe at Polaroid and had the highest regard for him. Our thoughts, love and prayers are with the Bessette and McLoughlin families.
Today, I visited my mother-in-law, Hilda Robb, and told her of the passing of her dear friend, Nancy. Hilda spoke of her meeting Nancy when, at 17, Hilda joined the stenopool at the Retail Credit Company at 141 Milk Street in Boston. They typed from dictophone reports that the investigators brought into the office. The "girls" had lunch together and also formed a bowling league that met after supper at a restaurant. Hilda couldn't remember the name of the bowling center, but said it was on Huntington Avenue, near the YMCA and Northeastern University. Nancy was a bridesmaid in Hilda's wedding and their two families visited each other through the years. At 93, Nancy even drove to visit Hilda when Hilda broke her hip and had to be in a rehabilitation center. Hilda has precious memories of her friend – Hilda smiled today at a picture of them, taken a few years ago, that hangs on her refrigerator. Hilda wants the family to know that she thought that they were all wonderful and that Nancy was a great friend.
I have been a neighbor of Ann's son Tom for over 30 years, and met her at Tom's home. She was a friendly and gracious woman. Full of life. I know that St Andre Bessette will be there to greet her, and Our Lord will say to her, "Well done good and faithful servant, inherit the house the Father has prepared for you".
My deepest sympathy to Tom and his family on their loss.

Nancy was a very special person in my life. Always welcomed the family to Chestnut Street in spite of the house already being full. We were always welcomed. Great conversations over the many years. Sharing advice, ideas, concerns and life in general. Honestly believe there is a wonderful “welcoming committee of McLoughlin’s “ thrilled that SIS is coming home. God bless you Nancy.
Aunt Nancy was such a very special person. She was the best and will be so missed! The world has lost a bright light, but heaven has gained another angel!
My sister Nancy was an amazing woman!
She was the second oldest of our family of 10. Nancy was always
helping out at home. I remember fondly that Nancy helped me
understand the prayer: “Hail Mary”.
Nancy was courageous! When she and Joe decided to buy a house – we were worried – how can they manage that with a growing family
not too long after WWII. But they succeeded in making a beautiful
home for their wonderful family!
Nancy was the “Hostess with the Mostess”. She welcomed family, friends, and relatives from Ireland! The door was always open!
When Nancy decided to do something, it was as much done!
We loved you dearly Nancy, and we believe and trust that you are happy and home in God’s arms!
We have another angel in heaven to pray to for guidance in our lives.
