Samuel “Joseph” Scott III, of Mattapoisett, passed away suddenly on June 18, 2025 at home.

“Joe” is the son of the late Samuel J. Scott, Jr. and Joan McGaughey Scott of Braintree.  He is survived by three sisters, Kathryn (Richard) Jones of South Carolina, Debra (late David) Rogers of Georgia, and Susan (Michael) Spellman of Plymouth; and five brothers: David (Kathryn) Scott of Pembroke, Michael Scott of Chelsea, Lawrence (Kathleen Maineri) Scott of Weymouth, Robert Scott of Weymouth and John Scott of Georgia.  Predeceased by his sister, Cynthia Scott.  Joe is also survived by two nieces and six nephews and many great nieces and nephews.

Joe lived in a group home in Mattapoisett, where he was cared for and loved by an amazing staff. They made sure Joe was always well cared for and engaged in a wide range of entertaining experiences.

Joe attended the Gateway Adult Day Program in Wareham for 19 years, where he was also loved and cared for, and had many friends.  He also participated in the Special Olympics for many years.

Visiting hours will be held at the Hurley Currie Funeral Home, 127 So Franklin St., Holbrook on Tuesday, July 1st from 9-10am followed by a funeral mass at St. Joseph Church in Holbrook at 10:30am.  Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.  Interment St. Mary’s Cemetery, Randolph.  In lieu of flowers donations could be made to the Gateway Adult Day Program, 2621 Cranberry Highway, Wareham, MA 02571.
