Maureen Flynn Courtney

Passed on December 29, 2023
Resident of Brockton, MA

Maureen (Flynn) Courtney, 67, of Brockton, MA, passed away on Friday, December 29th following a brief illness.

Born on August 25, 1956 to Richard and Helen (Finn) Flynn in Winthrop, MA, Maureen was a native of Stoneham, MA, and graduate of Stoneham High School. She was a member of the St. Patrick’s Shamrock Drill Team and Boston Crusaders Drum & Bugle Corps, through which she met the love of her life and husband of 45 years, John. They eventually settled down on the South Shore, building their home and raising their family in Brockton, MA, where they lived for the last 37 years.

Maureen had a successful 25-year career in banking, but the job that mattered the most to her in the world was being mother to her two beloved sons, John III and Justin, who absolutely adored her. She always put her family before everything else, including herself. They were the luckiest two boys in the world to have her as their ‘Mum.’

With a strong connection to the beach and ocean, Maureen enjoyed trips to Cape Cod and taking tropical cruises. She was also a city explorer who loved visiting Boston, New York, Chicago, and Las Vegas, where she played her luck, and often won, at the slots. Her ultimate travel adventure was this past summer, when she and her husband embarked on her dream trip to Italy and France. No matter where she was, though, she never missed a Patriots game.

A born caretaker and homemaker, Maureen was an excellent cook, gardener, and decorator, ringing in each season with creative and festive displays. Christmas was her favorite holiday, and she was an avid, year-round fan of Hallmark Channel movies for their evergreen seasonal spirit and inevitable happy endings.

The most beautiful, warm, vibrant, caring, devoted, and thoughtful wife, mother, and friend, Maureen was an unforgettable bright light and will be missed beyond words.

Maureen is survived by her husband, John Jr.; her son, John III, and his husband, David Greene; her brother, Michael Flynn, and his wife, Cheryl; and numerous in-laws, nieces, and nephews.

She is predeceased by her son, Justin; her parents; and her siblings, Richard, Jr., Diane, and Kevin Flynn.

A funeral service will be held at the Hurley Funeral Home, 134 So. Main St. (Rt. 28), Randolph on Tuesday, January 9th at 11am followed by a burial at MA National Cemetery in Bourne. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held Monday, January 8th from 4-7pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Maureen’s name.
