Arthur J. DeDonato, 99, of Braintree, MA passed away peacefully on June 27, 2024. Born on July 24, 1924, Arthur lived a long and full life.
Raised and educated in East Boston, Arthur served in the Army Air Corps during WWII. He was a graduate of Bentley and Northeastern University with degrees in finance. With his degrees and penchant for numbers, he enjoyed a long career as an accountant for Chiquita Brands. Arthur also found time to serve his community as a member of the Finance and Industrial Development committees and for a while as the Town Accountant. He was a Eucharist Minister at St. Joseph Church in Holbrook, MA and with his beloved wife Jackie, devoted their time for many years to fund raising for the local Catholic school. His love for his wife Jackie, was always apparent by his strong passion and devotion to her throughout his life.
He enjoyed sports and could often be found watching games with his grandchildren. Arthur talked about the Red Sox until his last days. He would write letters (and get responses) to sports stars that he admired, such as Bob Cousy. In later years he developed additional passions. He became interested in genealogy and researched his own and Jackie’s family histories. A few years later he became an avid writer and poet. His writings covered a wide variety of heartfelt topics and he composed an impressive collection of hundreds of poems and life stories.
Arthur will be missed by his Sons; Mark and his wife Roberta, Michael and his wife Carol, Arthur and his wife Claudia, and Richard; Grandchildren, Laura and her husband Jon, Marc “MJ” and his fiancé Kaitlin, and Jack; Great-grandchild, Brady. In addition, he will be missed by his dear sisters Emma and Sister Mary Rose of the Daughters of Charity. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews and beloved friends.
Arthur is predeceased by; his beloved wife for 67 years Jacqueline; Parents, Mary and Joseph; Sisters, Rose and Ann; Brothers who served in World War II, George in the Navy and Otto who fell on Normandy beach; Daughter-in-law, Stephanie.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Monday July 8, 2024 from 9:00 to 10:30 AM at Hurley Funeral Home, 127 South Franklin St., Holbrook, MA. The Funeral Mass follows at 11:00 AM at St. Mary’s Church, Randolph, MA. Burial will be private.
