John “Jack” Scanlan

November 19, 1933 – July 7, 2026
Resident of Holbrook, MA

John “Jack” Scanlan, of Holbrook MA, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2026, at the age of 92.

Born on November 19, 1933, and raised in Dorchester, Massachusetts, Jack lived a life defined by faith, hard work, service, and unwavering devotion to his family. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1955 to 1958 before beginning a long career with GTE, where he was known for his dedication and strong work ethic.

Jack was the beloved husband of the late Monica Scanlan, with whom he shared a lifetime of love and family. Together they raised three children: Monica Scanlan, Janet Donnelly, and John Scanlan.

He was a proud and loving grandfather to Shawn Donnelly, Erin Donnelly, and Kelly Pascarelli, and found immense joy in being a great-grandfather to Emmitt, Connor, Cole, Luca, and Finn. His greatest happiness came from spending time with his family, celebrating life’s milestones, and watching the generations that followed him grow.

One of five children, Jack treasured the importance of family throughout his life. His deep Catholic faith was a constant source of strength and guidance, and he was a devoted parishioner of St. Joseph’s Church in Holbrook for many years.

Jack will be remembered for his sense of humor, kind heart, gentle nature, and steadfast love for those around him. He leaves behind a legacy of faith, integrity, and unconditional love that will continue to live on through his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all who were blessed to know him.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during visitation on Friday, July 10, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Hurley Funeral Home in Holbrook. A Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church in Holbrook.  Interment Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.

The Scanlan family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers and hospice staff who provided Jack with compassionate care, comfort, and dignity during his final days.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Jack’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, whose mission of providing hope and healing to children and families was close to his heart.

May he rest in the peace of Christ, reunited with his beloved wife, Monica, and held forever in God’s loving embrace.
