John J. Monahan
Passed on January 27, 2026
Resident of , MA
John Monahan, of Randolph, passed away January 27, 2026, at the age of 93. Beloved husband of Grace (Chickie) Monahan of Randolph. Loving father of Gene Monahan and his wife Kathy Philips of Brockton, Kim Monahan Goldman and her husband Tony of Wareham, Grace Monahan of Randolph, and the late Kevin Monahan. Cherished grandfather of Tayla Gold, James Gold, Taylor Francis, Shayne Philips, and great-grandfather of Bentley Gold, Hunter and Leana Brogna-Bjornson, and Emmy Francis. John will be missed by extended family, nieces and nephews, friends and neighbors.
John was born on January 8th and shared January 8th with Elvis. He grew up in Dorchester and attended Brighton High School. After graduating high school, he served in the Korean War. John came home from Korea to his sweetheart Grace “Chickie” Leonard, and they were married on April 9, 1955. After marriage, John and Chickie called Randolph their home raising four children and both stayed in the original home until they passed.
John had many successful years as a mechanic with a long-time career at Foreign Motors West Natick. He achieved the status of Mercedes Benz Star Technician Award in 1978. Although his specialty was Mercedez Benz, his personal favorite was a Cadillac.
John had many travels with his children and Chickie, including visiting classic attractions in Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Atlantic City, Florida, California, and many memories were made on yearly family trips.
In John’s retirement years he was a weekly casino goer cruising in his Cadillac with Chickie to Lincoln, Rhode Island. John and Chickie enjoyed traveling each winter to the warm islands and Aruba.
We remember John’s humor and he was famous for funny quotes: What is the Mexican forecast? Chili today hot tamale or money talks and bulls**t walks.
He said he was a professional loser at the casino but to us he will be always a winner.

I had the great fortune to meet John Monanans wonderful daughter,Grace, two years ago:tTo say that Grace lived a busy and fulfilling life prior to coming home to Randolph to care for her father would be a injustice to the educated, caring and insightful person i am lucky to call a friend.Grace tended faithfully to any and all needs that arose,,seeking out professionals for opinions, options and plans to make his time here ,in his home, the best possible. I was constantly impressed with her ability to know his needs, both medically, spiritually and emotionally. We would sit and talk about his progress,or lack of it,and what resources could help. To find someone that would change their life completely to care for their elder parent reminds me of the Bible, and how it asks us to ‘Honor thy parent’,,well, this is a job well done, right up to the end and beyond,,thank you Grace, and Thank you John Monahan, for your service to our Country,Blessings
