Stephanie E. (Cummings) Ewing

Passed on October 19, 2025
Resident of Stoughton, formerly of Holbrook, MA

Stephanie Elizabeth Ewing (formerly Cummings) of Stoughton, formerly of Holbrook, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2025, at the age of 35, after a brief illness, surrounded by her immediate family.

Stephanie was raised and married in Holbrook, MA. She grew up on the farm properties of her beloved grandparents—Nana and Papa, and Gram and Grampy—holding a deep fondness for horses. In addition, Stephanie figure skated and danced with the Marie Austin School of Dance, where her niece and daughter are currently enrolled, much to her delight.

In her teenage years, she became deeply involved in Scouting’s Venturing Program. She was a Silver Award recipient, a Brotherhood Member of the Order of the Arrow, served on the summer camp staff at Camp Norse and Camp Squanto and served as Area 1 Venturing President, leading the youth-run program across New England. Stephanie continued to volunteer at Camp Squanto and was very excited for her daughter to be involved in the scouting program from a young age, an opportunity which is now available due to the expansion of all programs to females.

In her professional career, Stephanie worked in Early Childhood Education for years at Bright Horizons, making a lasting imprint on all the families who knew her. She then spent close to a decade at the Center for Psychiatric Rehabilitation at Boston University, supporting the participants of Recovery Education Programs in their journeys. Her most recent position was as a Medical Informatics Administrator at Boston College. Steph always gravitated toward roles where she helped others focus on growth or recovery.

Steph will be remembered for her smile that could light up a room, enjoying the sun from sunrise to sunset wherever she was, her love of traveling to the beach or ocean—Hawaii, Cape Cod and Harpswell Maine will always hold a special place in her heart—her chuckle, and her unconditional support for friends and family. To a fault, Steph cared more deeply about her loved ones than herself.  She gave everyone she knew a hug whenever she saw them—whether it had been two days or two years since they had last been together.

Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort in the memories she gave us—the laughter, the love, the lessons. Stephanie taught us how to live fully, love deeply, and cherish every moment.

Stephanie was predeceased by her grandparents Thomas and Teresa Cummings, and Myrtle McGrath. She is survived by her husband of six years, Andrew Ewing, and her pride and joy, her 20-month-old daughter Sydney Teresa Ewing, whom she affectionately called her “feral free-range chicken”—a joke between her parents, lovingly adapted over many iterations of Sydney’s life. She is also survived by her father and stepmother, James and Kelly Cummings; her mother, Lisa McGrath Cummings; her five siblings from her blended family: Andrew Cummings (and his fiancée Ashley), Sean Keene (and his wife Katt), Emily Cohen, Aaron Cohen, and Brady Cummings; her niece Peyton Cummings; and her grandfather Robert McGrath. Stephanie is also survived by a large network of caring and loving aunts, uncles, cousins, in-laws and friends both near and far.

Visiting hours will be held at the Hurley Currie Funeral Home, 127 S. Franklin Street, Holbrook, on Tuesday October 28, 2025, from 4-7pm.

Stephanie, I have known you since the day you were born. I was lucky to watch you grow up to be an amazing, wonderful, beautiful woman and mother. Its hard to believe in God because of your passing, but there has to be a god, because we were Blessed to have you in our lives. When you came into a room you were the bridge over troubled waters, and always had a big smile, and hugs and kisses for everyone. The holidays will never be the same again. You always had a present for everyone, but the best present was all ways you. I have such fond memories of your wedding at 3 Twins Farm, and times at Cooperation beach. My fondest memory was at Sydney’s first birthday party when you gave me a gift, because Syd and I share a birthday., and that epitomizes the person you are. This is not good by, its until we meet again, and until then may God hold you in the palm of his hands. God bless

Stephanie brought so much light into this world in the short time she was given. Her laughter, her warmth, and the way she loved so openly will always be remembered. Our deepest and most heartfelt sympathies go out to her family and friends during this unimaginable loss — and especially to Andrew and sweet Sydney. May you find comfort in the cherished memories of Steph’s joy, her vibrant spirit, her strength, and the boundless love she poured into your lives every single day.

Though her years were far too few, her impact was immeasurable. We will hold her close in our hearts always — in our memories, in the love she shared, and in the many lives she touched so deeply. Rest peacefully, Stephanie. Walk in LOVE & LIGHT. You are profoundly missed and forever loved.

My deepest condolences to Steph’s family and friends. Steph and I shared a lot of great memories on and off the ice. Our skating lessons were full of laughter and fun. I will miss her kind heart and friendly smile but most of all her love for the sport and the people around her.

I send my deepest sympathy to Stephanie’s family. I was a student at Boston university center for psychiatric rehabilitation where she used to work. She would light up the center with her infectious smile and was always willing to go the extra mile for anyone. I am glad I had the opportunity to lead a walking class with her many summers ago. She was so funny One time I remember walking along the Charles river with the class and she challenged me to a short race and she was wearing flip flops and she still won. Sadly she left the center but we still kept in touch. I was so excited for her when Sydney arrived in the world. We shared pictures of her daughter and my nephews and nieces.
Another memory I have is her love of the beach and her swimming pool. She told me she would sometimes take her laptop in her swimming pool to work. Also I had the pleasure of meeting Brady when he was 4 years old she brought him to B.U. one day and I could see in both their eyes their special bond they had for each other. I also admire her fierce love and caring of her family especially her grandfather who passed away. I loved hearing all the stories about him being taken to the emergency room by Stephanie for being dehydrated and Stephanie came home with him and he asked her to get him an ice cream cone so he could continue his sitting out in the sun. her response was”No you are coming inside with me now” The ocean waves are still today waiting to welcome her to the sea. It is a huge loss for everyone that loved her.

Steph will be remembered fondly by the many people whose lives she touched. I had the honor of knowing her through Scouting, Venture crew. My children had the benefit of having Steph as a leader in Venturing and at Camp Squanto. It seemed nothing would turn off that 1000 Watt smile of hers! May your happy memories and the kind thoughts shared by those who knew and loved her bring you comfort. ((Hugs)) Elizabeth Channell
