Ballester, Jose A of South Weymouth, passed away on June 7th, 2023. Jose was ordained in 1984 and served as a Unitarian Universalist minister until his retirement in 2012. During his ministry, Jose served various congregations across the country and served as a community minister working for the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee. In addition, Jose served many years on the Board of the Unitarian Universalist Association and on other denominational committees. Following his retirement, Jose spent time writing, specifically focused on the history of the LUUNA – the Latino/a Unitarian Universalist Networking Association, of which he was one of the founding members. In addition, Jose relaxed by playing various computer games in network with others across the country and found pure joy in being a grandfather to his five grandchildren: Olivia, Maeve, Ariana, Ella and Javier.

Jose is survived by his wife, Susan Ballester of Weymouth MA, his children, Elizabeth Ballester of Spring Hill, FL., Daniel Ballester of Astoria New York and Kathy Noonan of Sandwich, MA., his sister, Nilda Core of New York and by his five grandchildren and fifteen nieces and nephews. Jose was preceded by his mother and father, Juanita (Marquez) and Jose Ballester, Sr. as well as by his sister, Esperanza Lopez, and his brothers: Victor Core, John Core, and David Core.

Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the Hurley Funeral Home, 127 South Franklin Street, Holbrook MA on Monday, June 12th from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 13th at 10:00 AM at First Parish, Hingham – Old Ship at 14 Main Street Hingham, MA. – relatives and friends are invited. In lieu of flowers, please donate to World Central Kitchen.
