James W. Murray

James W. Murray, of West Newbury, VT (formerly Pembroke, MA) passed away September 5, 2024, at the age of 85. James is survived by his wife, Lauren (Katkin) Murray; his son Michael J. Murray of Las Vegas, NV; his daughter Kathleen Murray Dion and her husband Jonathan of Pembroke, MA; his son Daniel F. Murray of Florida; and his daughter Maureen Murray Elmes and her husband Brian of Bellingham, MA. He also leaves behind his grandchildren: John Hidalgo, Tara Murray, Ryan McManus, Erin Murray, Seamus McManus, Mikayla Murray, Brandon Murray; and his brother Brian Callahan of Halifax, MA.

James was predeceased by his mother, Irene (Speed) Callahan and her husband Frank, Martha and Joseph Connolly, who lovingly raised him, and his wife Barbara (Strout) Murray.

After graduating from North Quincy High School, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps with his cousin Thomas Godfrey and friend Paul Flynn. He was stationed in Camp Lejeune and in Washington, DC.
He worked for many years as a truck driver in Boston’s Fish Pier.

James enjoyed boating, lobstering, hunting, cooking and socializing with his friends and family. He also enjoyed singing Irish music and never missed an opportunity to sing Danny Boy at a party or wedding.

Visiting hours will be held at the Hurley Funeral Home, 134 S, Main St. (Rt.28), Randolph on Thursday September 12th from 9am-11am. Interment will immediately follow at Knollwood Memorial Park in Canton. Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
