Gertrude M. (McEachern) Irwin

Gertrude M. (McEachern) Irwin, passed away on August 13, 2019 at the age of 87, after a long illness. Born on August 17, 1931 in Roxbury Massachusetts to the late Daniel and Elizabeth McEachern, Gertrude went on to marry the love of her life, the late William G. Irwin II, on October 31, 1951. She dedicated her life to raising her two children and keeping a happy home.

Gertrude (Gert, Gerty, Nana, Grandma) belonged to the Braintree Golf Course where she achieved her first hole in one. She was an avid golfer and played in Florida with her husband prior to his passing and her friends for many years. There, she got her second and third holes in one, an achievement she was very proud of. Gert loved the game, laughing with friends, spending her winters in Florida and making memories with her children and grandchildren.

Gertrude leaves behind her brother, Frederick McEachern of Virginia, her daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Bill Whealan of Holbrook, her son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Laurie Irwin of Franklin, her granddaughter and her husband, Kerri and Mike Drummond of Pembroke, her grandson, Kevin Whealan of Falmouth, her grandchildren Emily and Jackson Irwin of Franklin and her great-grandchildren, Kristian Dawes, Julia Drummond and Elizabeth Drummond of Pembroke. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins

She was my father's youngest sister and all my life I heard from others about Aunt Gert and her powerful personality. I am so glad that I finally got to meet her at her 80th birthday party. So many people gathered to celebrate her and her well-lived life. Seeing her and Dad together was a wonderful and bittersweet experience. She was healthy, forceful, and beautiful and it was her brother, Fred, with the failing memory. She was so happy to see him and treated him so tenderly. He didn't know that it would be their last time together but she did. She was concerned for his health and knew he couldn't travel easily. It was hard to leave that day. She kissed him and told him, "I love you Freddie." We love you too Aunt Gert.
