Carol A. (McLaughlin) Capone

CAPONE, Carol A. (McLaughlin) of Abington, formerly of Randolph, passed away unexpectedly on October 6th at the age of 63. Devoted mother to Charles Capone and his wife Nikki of Abington and Kristen Capone of Quincy. Beloved longtime companion of John (Jack) Meehan. Carol enjoyed spending time with Jack’s children; Daniel and his wife Sara, Molly and Maura Meehan. Cherished daughter of the late Walter F. and Alberta M. McLaughlin. Sister of Ellen McColgan of Abington, Catherine Fraser and her husband David of Falmouth, Janice McLaughlin of Portsmouth, RI, Mary McLaughlin and her husband Michael Walsh of Annapolis, MD and Joan Brady of Bourne. Proud Nana of Julia and Tyler Capone and Colin and Cora Meehan. Also survived by many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Carol grew up in Randolph and attended Randolph High School, graduating in 1973. From there, Carol pursued her passion to help others and enrolled in Quincy City Hospital’s School of Nursing. Upon graduating, her first job was as an RN in the emergency room of Quincy Hospital. Here she met a lot of her lifelong friends.

Carol went back to school and graduated Curry College with a bachelor’s degree in Science in 1981. She loved to learn and challenge herself. She was still working full time and had recently had her first child, making the feat all the more impressive. In 1992, Carol graduated from Simmons College and became a nurse practitioner.

In 1997, she opened the first occupational health department at South Shore Hospital in South Weymouth. Here she served as the program director. Carol began working at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in 2006, where she continued to practice occupational health. Carol was an extremely giving person. She volunteered at the Boston Marathon for many years, providing medical care for the runners. She also supported many local charities and causes.

Carol was an avid Boston sports fan. She also enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family. She particularly enjoyed going to the theatre with her daughter. Carol was very proud of her grandchildren and was always taking them on adventures. She will be greatly missed!

What a wonderful and genuine human being, and a great friend was Carol. She was also a true professional; in addition to her career in occupational health, I remember her as an incredibly calm and stabilizing force in the hectic ER environment - the very definition of an ER charge nurse. I was privileged to have known her. My deepest condolences to her family.
