Catherine (Taggart) McFarlane
Catherine (Taggart) McFarlane of Holbrook, died peacefully Sunday, July 16, at Pope Nursing Home in Weymouth. She was 83. Mrs. McFarlane was the loving wife of the late Henry “Harry†McFarlane.
Born in Glasgow, Scotland on September 19, 1933, Mrs. McFarlane was the daughter of the late Peter and Sarah (Doherty) Taggart. She was raised and educated in Scotland and moved to Dorchester in 1964. Mrs. McFarlane then moved to Holbrook in 1970 and lived there for approximately 40 years. She worked at Child World in Avon and then at the JL Hammett Company in Braintree for many years as an accountant and a buyer. Mrs. McFarlane was passionate about her heritage and was previously involved in organizing the Scottish Games held at Stonehill College in Easton for many years.
Mrs. McFarlane was the loving mother of Sharon Bizokas and her husband Michael of Braintree, Frances DiBenedetto of Glasgow, Scotland and the late Joseph McFarlane. She was the oldest of 12 siblings. She was the sister of Michael Taggart of Melrose, Margaret Taggart of Winston Salem, NC, Andrew Taggart, Edward Taggart and Paul Taggart all of England, and the late Peter Taggart, Joseph Taggart, Hannah McCargo, Mary Hunter, Sadie Shanks and Theresa Doyle. Mrs. McFarlane is also survived by her four grandchildren; Derek McFarlane, Brett, Briana and Michael Bizokas and many nieces and nephews.
Her funeral will be from the Hurley Funeral Home, 127 S. Franklin St. (Rte. 37) Holbrook on Saturday July 22 at 8:15am. Followed by a funeral Mass in St. Joseph Church, 153 S. Franklin St., Holbrook at 9am. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours are Friday from 4-8pm. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Catherine's memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, 309 Waverly Oaks Rd., Waltham, MA 02452.
