Daniel E. Yerkes

Daniel Edward Yerkes, 65, long-time resident of Holbrook, MA, more recently resided in Salem, NH and Hudson, FL died December 23, 2023 after a brief illness.

Dan was the fun-loving father of Kevin Yerkes of Clearwater, FL and “GrandDan” to his little buddies Kayden and Grace also of Clearwater. He was the son of Nancy J (Flynn) of Marshfield, MA and the late Harold L Yerkes. He was the brother of Michael Yerkes and his wife Karen of Middleton, MA; Stephen Yerkes and his late wife Ann of East Bridgewater, MA; and Robin O’Neil and her husband Gary of Marshfield, MA. As well as loving uncle to many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Dan told countless stories of his childhood through high school years, often saying “no one had a better childhood.” He graduated from Holbrook High School in 1976 where he learned gained an aptitude for electricity and played baseball and football. Dan graduated from Blue Hills Technical Institute in 1979 as salutatorian. He went on to work as a plumbing engineer for Stone and Webster and Jacobs Engineering. His most recent project was completing the engineering for the Wynn Hotel and Encore Casino.

Upon retiring in June, 2023, Dan completed a life-long desire to drive across country. He left from Massachusetts and drove Route 66 out to Santa Monica, CA, then returned home to Florida – with no real itinerary and many stops along the way. He stopped to talk and share stories and made new friends throughout his trip.

Although gone too soon, Dan enjoyed a full life with endless stories and adventures. He recently expressed “I did everything I wanted to do and had a great life.” He enjoyed snowmobiling, driving his ATV, fishing with his little buddy, and family ancestry. He was an avid Boston sports fan and more recently became a Tampa Bucs fan.

Visiting hours will be held at Hurley Funeral Home 127 S Franklin St, Holbrook, MA on Saturday, January 13th from 9:30 – 12:00. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society @givenow.lls.org.

To all the Yerksies:
So very sorry to hear of Danny's passing; I was grateful to see him and the brothers at Stephen's HHS induction in November.
Danny was a true Brookville boy and an American Legion ball player.
We did indeed have an idyllic childhood- It was Mayberry...
Love,
Graz

Dan was an absolutely beautiful soul. I had him to a Red Sox game last April and he was sending me pictures from the Chicago White Sox stadium just at the end of September.

Dan was always so good to me.

I had no idea and I am in shock right now. I am so sorry.
