Mary C. (Satkewich) Clougher

Mary Camille (Satkewich) Clougher of Holbrook passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones, after a courageous battle with Multiple Myeloma on March 8, 2023, at the age of 62. Mary is survived by her devoted husband of 37 years, William Clougher, as well as her beautiful children, Paul Clougher, Phillip Clougher, Marisa Politano, and her husband Zachary.

Mary was born in Dorchester and grew up in South Boston and Quincy. She was the daughter of the late Camille (Fini) and Paul Satkewich. Mary was a loving sister to: her brother, Charles Satkewich and his wife Marie; her late sister-in-law Elise Lavidor Satkewich; her sister, the late Anna Hogan; her brother-in-law, Frank Hogan and his wife Barbara; and her beloved twin brother, John Satkewich and his wife Darlene. Mary was a beloved daughter-in-law to the late John Clougher and his wife Mary (McLaughlin) Clougher of Dorchester. Mary was a loving aunt and Godmother to her many nieces and nephews.

Graduating from North Quincy High School in 1978, Mary went on to graduate from UMass Boston in 1982 majoring in Political Science and History. Mary worked for the Holbrook Public Schools since 2002, working at the John. F. Kennedy School, the South School and Holbrook Middle-High School.

Mary’s most distinguished accomplishments came from being the Advisor to The Civics Club which she founded at the South School in 2008. Mary spearheaded Project Citizen, which allowed her to work closely with State Senator John F. Keenan, who nominated her to be the recipient of the “Unsung Heroine Award of Massachusetts” in 2018 when the Peace Day Bill (Bill S2181) which she lobbied for, was signed and implemented in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, establishing that Peace Day be celebrated in all of Massachusetts every September 21.

In 2020 Mary received the “Adult Advisor Award" & “Outstanding Chapter Award” for her work with The Holbrook 84 Chapter. Mary and her students worked hard to have the Comprehensive Tobacco Legislation passed in Holbrook, Stoughton and Weymouth. Their work led to Massachusetts implementing a law prohibiting all flavored tobacco sales. Mary worked with The Martin Richard Foundation to establish the Bulldogs Build Bridges and Bulldogs Don’t Bully initiatives. Additionally, she worked with various foundations and charities such as the Peace One Day Foundation, Students Against Destructive Decisions, Sandy Hook Promise, Pennies for Patients, and Hasbro Toy Drive.

Mary's passion for the arts led her to co-direct each musical, concert and theater camp production at Holbrook High School since 2004. Mary served as an Advisor for Soldiers Club and Student Council and organized various activities in Holbrook such as Voter Registration Drives, Student Government Day, Memorial Day Parades, Flag Day Ceremonies, welcome home parties for soldiers, and Christmas Tree Lightings. Mary marched on Washington in 2015 to end the stigma on substance abuse with Holbrook Cares. As a CCD teacher for St. Joseph’s Parish, she was a “Light of the World Award” recipient.

Mary has touched the lives of many with her compassion and drive to invoke change in the town of Holbrook. Mary was a friend, leader, peacemaker, activist, and role model. Mary loved to serve others and treat everyone with kindness; she had a true calling for changing the world and lives of every single person she met. Her ability to make everyone feel loved, seen, heard and appreciated was a gift that will live on in all of the lives she has touched.

Mary was pure sunshine and happiness. The family encourages bright colors be worn to her services to honor Mary’s spirit of light, hope and being “fabulous.”

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the wake at At the Hurley Currie Funeral Home, 127 So. Franklin St. (Rt. 37), visiting hours will be held Monday, March 13th from 4-8 pm. Thankful to have known and met this amazing woman. From elementary to the end of senior year I have always had Mrs. Clougher to guide me. So grateful to have seen the impact she made on the student body, and to have taken part in several events she took part in. She will surely be missed forever.
Forever the sparkle to Holbrook, a role model that will never be forgotten.
