Thomas G. Gauss

Thomas G. Gauss “Papa Goose”, 89 of Holbrook, MA passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Friday September 16th, 2022 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his sister Rosemarie Eames (Gauss), his favorite uncle Joseph Violandi, and great granddaughter’s Vera and Gianna Felaccio.

Thomas was born in Boston, MA on September 4th 1933 to the late Thomas J. and Louise Violandi Gauss. He graduated from Cathedral High School and attended Wentworth where he studied drafting and worked in this field until he served in the U.S. Army. Thomas then worked at Charles Logue Construction for 40+ years until retirement in 1995. He spent his later years working locally to keep his “tuckies” flowing.
Thomas married Barbara Gauss (Gundal) on May 2, 1959. He was married to his “brown eyed girl” for 63 loving years. He is survived by his four children Thomas Gauss, Rosemarie Ricci (Gauss), her husband Ralph, Jean Johnson (Gauss), her husband Ted, James Gauss, and his Wife Peggy. His many grandchildren Michael Ricci, Colleen Ricci, TJ Johnson, Christina Felaccio, Adam Felaccio, Casandra Kardell, Justin Kardell, Timothy Ricci, Alicia Johnson, Sarah Gauss, Zac Carey, Nick Gauss, Ian Nightingale, and great-grandchildren Brian Ricci, Charles Ricci, Evelyn Ricci, Amelia Ricci, Allyson Ricci, Vincent Felaccio, and Lennon Felaccio. Thomas always surrounded himself with his family and was often found sitting on the outskirts of a room happily watching his family saying “this is all you need in life, your family”.

In his beautiful 89 years of life Thomas shared his love for Aruba, his “happy place” where he visited for over 25 years, his love for local sports, and making his family laugh pretending to be “the grouch”. He was avid bowler, he could often be found by his sisters’ side at a local casino, lounging poolside under a palapas, at the VFW where he loved the meat raffles, or to lunch with friends. He will also be remembered by family and friends for his record refusal to wear shorts.

Thomas’s time here would never be long enough for those who loved him. He will be sorely missed.

A life, so beautiful, deserves a special celebration. The family invites those who loved Thomas to join them for a celebration of life to share stories, laughs, and happiness over a life that was lived to the fullest on October 8th between 4:30 and 8:30pm at The Meadowbrook Family Restaurant 1486 Main Street, Hanson, MA. In Lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Thomas’ name https://danafarber.jimmyfund.org/site/Donation
