Sheila E. (March) Azzara

Sheila Elaine Azzara, 84, formerly of Abington for over 50 years, died on December 28, 2021, at her home in Randolph. Sheila was born in 1937, in North Providence, RI to Helen (Grant) and Robert March. She was an only child but called Lila Swanson her sister after Lila came to live with the family as a teen. Sheila grew up in RI and moved to New York City following graduation from Mount Hope High School – there she met the love of her life, Victor. She briefly attended nursing school but left to marry Vic in 1956. They started their family and moved to Dorchester, having 7 children by 1965 when they moved to Abington where they had their last. Sheila was active in many organizations in Abington including St. Bridget’s Sodality, the Parish Council, and she organized the Folk Group in the 1970’s. She was a Girl Scout and Cadet leader and ran the summer recreation program for the Town of Abington for many years. She was active with the Abington High School band and chaperoned many of their major trips and was also involved with the Berwick Boys Foundation of Bridgewater. Sheila enjoyed being a homemaker and welcoming anyone into her home; she cooked for many. She loved caring for her husband, her children and all their friends. When the last of her children entered school, Sheila worked as a bookkeeper at several local businesses, retiring from Precision Door and Window in Stoughton. Her interests included spending time with her family and reading; when she was able, she loved to travel.

Sheila is survived by seven children and their spouses, including Dr. Lori E. Azzara and Chris Lembo of Randolph, MA; Richard J. Azzara and Susan Lopes of Meredith, NH; Robert M. and Barbara Azzara of Sarasota, FL; Michael P. and his late wife Marianne of Carver, MA; Victor A. and Lois Azzara of Kenai, AK; Terry A. and Robin Azzara of W. Bridgewater; and Susan M. McCallum and Glenn Bigelow of Middleboro, MA. She also loved 16 grandchildren that she absolutely adored, as well as 18 great grandchildren and 7 great, great grandchildren. Additionally, there are numerous nieces and nephews and all the wonderful Southern Azzara’s that adored her. Sheila was preceded in death by her devoted husband of over 40 years Victor A. Azzara, her son Steven J. Azzara, and grandchildren Shelby M. Azzara and Anthony J. Azzara.

Funeral from the Hurley Funeral Home, 134 So. Main St. (Rt. 28), Randolph on Monday, January 3rd at 9:15am followed by a Mass of Celebration of her life at St. Michael’s in Avon at 10am. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, January 2nd from 5-7pm. Interment St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Rockland. It's truly been a blessing to have you as my mother. I love the fact that you believe in God and that he sent Jesus to die for us and he rose again to show us we will have a new life with him if we just repent and believe. I also want to thank my whole family for who they are and all that they do may we continue to truly be a close family and continue to always be there for each other. Love to you all Bob.

My deepest sympathy to the Azzara family. Sheila was one of my neighbors for over 40 years. I lived at 93. May she be at peace.
