Christopher E. Bates

Christopher Evan Bates, 37, of Sudbury, MA passed away suddenly on Saturday, November 27, 2021, at his home.

Born in 1984, in Cambridge, MA, Chris grew up in Sudbury, attended Lincoln Sudbury Regional High School and soon after relocated to Arizona before moving to Los Angeles and finally settling in Worcester, MA. He loved working around food, most recently as Kitchen Manager for local restaurant where he was well-liked and respected by both his employer and co-workers.

Chris leaves behind his mother Janet M. Meaney of Boston, his father Norman D. Bates of Mashpee, brothers Daniel Bates and his wife Arianne of New York, sister Emily Bates Cartmell of New Jersey and David Carter and his wife Ana of Austin, TX. He also leaves behind several loving aunts, uncles, cousins, many friends and his two rescue dogs, Snoops and Rosie.

Chris took immense pride in being a rescue parent and was not shy in discussing how much his dogs helped in his darkest moments. He never faltered in his love, pride and care for his dogs or his passion for adoption. His tenderness towards them is evidence of the deep well he had within him for unending love and passion.

The family plans to host a private gathering of family and close friends to celebrate and honor his life on Saturday, May 21, 2022, at his father’s home in Mashpee, MA.

Memorial donations to honor Chris are welcomed and can be made through the ASPCA at: https://secure.aspca.org/team/ChrisSnoopRosie

I am so incredibly sorry for your loss. Chris was an amazing and beautiful soul and his unique light in this world will be missed. He was so open and kind, and I will never forget how he welcomed me when I moved to Sudbury in high school. May you all find peace during such a difficult time.

My husband Dave passed in September and Chris came to his services on September 24th. Dave would be heartbroken as I am. Dave picked up Chris and the dog and took him to meetings and sometimes for groceries when he lived in Marlborough. Loved that dog who would wash your face on meeting you and cried for Chris when he went in to grocery store. I have some of his furniture from when he moved from Marlboro to Worcester. I asked him about the dog and he said he got another one to keep him company. Will pray for you and Chris.
