Charles H. Hoy Jr

Charles H. Hoy, Jr., of Holbrook, formerly of Dorchester, passed away unexpectedly April 13, 2020 at the age of 79. Beloved husband of Janice (Beaudoin) Hoy. Loving father of Christopher Hoy and his wife Lauren of Holbrook. Cherished grandfather of Samantha. Dear brother of Virginia M. (Hoy) Cullivan. Son of the late Charles and Bertha Hoy. Also survived by many much-loved friends and relatives.

Charlie worked as a bus driver for the City of Boston. He was very involved, for many years, with the Dorchester Little League, Cedar Grove (Dorchester) Youth Hockey and the Greater Boston Junior Bruins. Charlie was always so proud of the kids he coached on all of those teams. He loved spending time with Samantha, including attending her soccer games.

A celebration of Charlie’s life will be held at a later date.

Chris, Lauren and Samantha,
So very sorry to learn of Charlie's passing. We first met Charlie and Janice when they were newlyweds and had a very special friendship. I remember the cool black Barracuda your parents drove (we thought they were rich), your Dad taking you in the stroller, going to the horse track, sitting on the steps while you played in front of the house. Treasure the good times that we all shared. God Bless.

So sorry for Charlie’s passing. I have fond memories of us coaching together and of the 12 year old trips. As importantly I have great memories of Charlie’s kindness. In my prayers

I met Charlie in 1978 working as a bus driver. He was a good worker and a Union leader always fighting hard for his Union Brothers and Sisters. I know he loved his family very much and was so proud of his granddaughter. I know his loving and caring for his wife Janice was so special. May you rest in peace. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face; the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand.

I have worked with Charlie for 40 years (1980) but really got to know him the last 10. What I learned from Charlie was he was a man of conviction did everything the right way a straight shooter that didn't bite his tongue and I learned to never piss him off. Charlie was a great family man ewe ho talked about his family everyday and we knew that his family came first and second was a union leader of local 8751.
RIP Charlie you will be greatly missed

My condolences to Charles' son and family. Your father was a great man. Any driver at Freeport yard or anyone who had known Charles would have said the same thing. He always made us laugh. Charly, we will miss you at the dominoes table. We knew you missed your wife so much, you wanted to be with her. My friend, you will always be remembered at Freeport yard.

I met Charlie in 1988 as Driver for Local 8751 and knew in an instant he was a strong force in the union, a no nonsense type of guy very blunt and to the point and with his size commanded respect. But truth be told a family man and a gentle giant. The years that I have known Charlie he has always talked about why he worked so hard for his family and that loved transporting the children to and from school. My wife Olivia and I send our prayers and condolences to the Hoy family.
May God give you all comfort and strength.

My condolences to the Hoy family on the passing of Charlie. My whole family loved Charlie Hoy, who coached my brother's hockey team. I remember him as a very kind and funny man. I was just a shy kid often in the stands watching my brother play and Charlie would always take the time to ask me about school - Chris and I were in the same grade - or what race horses I liked (he knew from my dad that I was also a big racing fan). He had a friendly wisecrack at the ready for everybody. He touched many lives through his coaching - a life very well lived.
