Janice N. Moran-Mathena

Janice Nancy Moran-Mathena, of Whitman, passed away February 18, 2021 at the age of 68. Born in Quincy, Janice was the daughter of the late John (Jack) William Moran and Helen Marguerite Robinson. She is survived by her daughter Morgan Cathleen Mathena and her husband Edward L DeFilippo Jr. of Brockton, and her daughter Mallory Taylor Mathena of Peabody. She is predeceased by her former husband Charles H Mathena Jr who was her best friend. She is also survived by her brother John H. Moran and his wife Noreen of Weymouth, her sister Judith H Moran of Cape Cod, and many nieces and nephews. But most importantly she was a Nan to her grandsons David James Forth Jr of Whitman and Seamus Charles Harrison Mathena of Peabody. She and David had a special bond, and she was over the moon when Seamus was born.

Janice graduated from Braintree High in 1970 and put herself through Northeastern University where she graduated with a Nursing degree in 1973. Janice worked in Boston’s best hospitals. Janice loved to travel and has been all over the world. Most notably she travelled to Saudi Arabia in the 70s to help open an American hospital with her husband and her sister’s family. Janice loved music, reading, cats and tennis. Go Rafa! She never missed a match. She also loved her 4-legged grandkids Maggie McGootz and Murphy. Janice had the best sense of humor and always had the answer to life’s most challenging questions. She loved video chatting and reminiscing with her best friends of over 30 years Christine and Dan Skinner of Carver. She was Morgan’s best friend and Mallory’s "oracle". She was there for anyone at any time, often times she was a "Mum" or "Nan" to her daughter’s and grandson’s friends. Janice means Gods gracious gift, and that she was. "In my life, I love you more".

A celebration of life will be planned when the weather is better, so everyone has a chance to say goodbye. We are having a small memorial at Tommy Doyle's at Sidelines in Brockton on Sunday, March 7th at 12pm.
