Justin R. Courtney

Justin Ryan Courtney, 38, a native of Brockton, MA, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, January 16th.

Born on November 27, 1982 in Melrose, MA, Justin was a 2001 graduate of Brockton High School where he was a member of the Brockton Boxers football team. He enlisted in the Navy following graduation, and after completing basic training in Great Lakes, IL, served in Iraq and Afghanistan and traveled the world on the U.S.S. Enterprise. He later returned to Brockton, and most recently had a successful career as logistic coordinator at Reynolds DeWalt.

Justin was an avid football fan, and enjoyed golfing, music and streaming the latest series, movies and documentaries. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and friends, especially his beloved girlfriend, Julie. Justin had an infectious energy and loving, positive spirit that made everyone he came into contact with feel like they were the only one in the room.

Justin is survived by his parents, John Jr. and Maureen; his brother, John III, and his husband, David; his girlfriend, Julie Smith; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

A walkthrough wake will be held on Thursday, January 21st, from 5-7:30pm at Hurley Funeral Home on South Main St. in Randolph, MA. Funeral service and burial will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery on North St. in Randolph, MA on Friday, January 22nd, at 11:00am. Covid-19 precautions will be in place. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Justin’s name.

I went to high school with Justin and he was always such a nice person, and a really well mannered guy when manners were hard to come by back then. I’m in shock to hear of his passing and send my condolences to his family and loved ones. I hope you take peace in knowing that he was one of the good ones. ❤️

When I received word of your passing it struck hard, you were so young. Strangely you had been heavy on my mind just days before. I had a vivid vision of you smiling and speaking kind words; it was just a warm rememberance of the type of guy you were. As I scrolled your FB page, it was remarkable that so many and varied folks took time out to share a positive word or thought. Evidence of a life lived decently. I do not know your family but I thank them for molding you and allowing your light to be shared with all of us. Far from perfect, you had your flaws for certain, but you were a decent dude Justin Courtney and you will me missed. Godspeed brother. May we all learn the recognize the lesson you were sent to teach us. Condolences to your family and loved ones.
